Notification Emails
From V10.6.393, a unidirectional messaging approach has been implemented, with Softdial CallGem™ sending a SMTP email to a Sytel email server.
This approach mitigates all reasonable security risks for customers:
- There is no requirement to open corporate firewalls to incoming traffic.
- The data sent in the email is restricted to the machine ID hash and date/ time information. No customer data is sent.
- Customers such as carriers who have a completely locked down production network can configure the CallGem server to send the email via the customer’s own mail servers.
- By using SMTP (a core TCP/IP application protocol) as a messaging transport this passes stateful packet inspection (SPI) in intelligent firewalls and will require minimal or no customer IT intervention to facilitate.
For details of default setup, and how to configure for your circumstances, see Notification Email Settings.

Any of the following conditions will trigger sending of notification emails:
- The main license being a rental license
- The license having rental extensions
- The license being configured as a usage license
- The registry value RecordUsage being set to a nonzero value

The notification emails are sent
- daily at 5 minutes past midnight local time
- at any time Softdial CallGem™ receives a Stop Service request.
Each time, usage information will also be broadcast to any connected Alert Monitor and License Monitoring clients.

It is a condition of permanent soft licenses and usage licensing that usage digest emails are sent. If they are not, because of server or communication failure, 30 days are given in order to troubleshoot and fix the problem(s). After 30 days, the license is disabled.
Notifications of failure are given via any connected Alert Monitor and License Monitoring clients, according to the following timeline:
Days overdue | Notification | Severity |
---|---|---|
1+ | FAILED to send digest e-mail to <recipient>. |

3-23 | Your license will expire in X days Y hours if you ignore this message. |
